Chiefs Lucky Baloyi to be out

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lucky Baloyi will undergo a scan this week on a possibly serious knee injury suffered in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Moroka Swallows at FNB Stadium.
Baloyi had to be taken off in the second half after a challenge with Swallows’ captain Lefa Tsutsulupa.
Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic bemoaned the fact no action was taken for what he described as “the most dangerous challenge of the game” while six of his players were booked for other offences.
But he also admitted the tackle by Tsutsulupa on Baloyi “was not intentional”.
“It looks bad,” added the Serbian coach about the condition of Baloyi’s knee. “He has had some problems with his knees before. We’ll wait and see.”
Baloyi has made a strong impression in his first full season with Chiefs, particularly in a defensive midfield role.
The 20-year-old Baloyi has scored twice in 13 starts for Chiefs in all official competition this season.(www.supersport.com).
This could prove to be a blow to Kaizer Chiefs, however Vladmir's response seemed defensive and more or less a press release. It's not  a new stunt between Chiefs and Swallows to have   “unintentional” injuries but this is proving costly to new stars who want to make the game worth watching. Vladmir seems to be aware but highly ignorant in terming the game“the most dangerous challenge of the game”

Zimbabwe rue over New Zealand thriller

New Zealand became only the 3rd team to win a T20 International chasing 200+, and in the process dashed Zimbabwe's chances of salvaging a consolation win from their disastrous Kiwi tour. Batting first, Zimbabwe has reached an impressive 200/2, with Brendan Taylor (75* off 43 balls) and Hamilton Masakadza (62 off 42) both claiming fifties - by far the most impressive batting performance of the tour, and a score that in most T20 matches would have been enough to secure victory. But New Zealand have been dominant all tour, and weren't about to lie down - especially when they'd already proven in the preceding matches that they had the mark of the Zimbabwean bowlers. To their credit, they kept the Kiwi run rate to around the required rate for the full innings.Never the less two fours and a six later the match was over, and Zimbabwe were left to rue how close it had been. Full scorecard below the cut.New Zealand won by 5 wickets.

Suspensions a blessing in desguise for Warriors?

The Zimbabwe Football Association has suspended Warriors coach Norman Mapeza and his assistant, Joey Antipas. The two were part of the Warriors coaching staff implicated the Asian match-fixing scandal known as Asiagate between 2007 and 2009.

Rahman Gumbo has been named interim coach as the national team prepares for its 2013 Africa Cup Of Nations qualifier against Burundi in Bunjumbura on February 29.

ZIFA Chief Executive Jonathan Mashingaidze said the move was in line with his board’s decision to suspend all scandal-linked coaching staff, players or staff members.Mashingaize said the suspensions would remain in effect until those implicated were cleared by the ZIFA ethics committee, expected to meet soon.

In an unrelated development, former Warriors striker Peter Ndlovu has been named Under 23 national team coach.Ndlovu who now has his coaching certification and is familiar with grooming junior players whom we urgently need in our future national team. Ndlovu, all-time leading scorer for Zimbabwe, also played for Sheffield United from 2001 to 2004 and South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns from 2004-2008 (www.voanews.com).
The possibilities are high that Ndlovu’s appointment is in keeping with giving younger players the best possible coaching.

where is Zimbabwe on the world football map?

At the moment, Zimbabwean football is not very appealing to the international market. Not many local players have made the breakthrough to the top leagues in Europe in recent years. Only Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari is at ,a top team, Portsmouth. Most Zimbabwean players who go to Europe end up in small leagues such as Poland, Cyprus and Belgium.
Generally, Zimbabwean clubs have done well in Africa. Monomotapa, a small but ambitious club from Harare, reached the mini-league stage of the Champions League in 2009. All this points to the fact that there is already talent in Zimbabwe and what needs to be done is to identify and nurture it to the required standards. It needed top South African side Kaizer Chiefs to confirm that Knowledge Musona is a star for the future. Virtually unknown while playing for Black Aces Academy in Harare, the 19-year-old Musona has proven to be a key player to Chiefs scoring crucial goals.Zimbabwe's got talent, here are some key players to note,
Zim players in European top flight leagues
England: Benjani Mwaruwari (Manchester City)
Turkey: Joseph Ngwenya (Antalyaspor)
Poland: Takesure Chinyama, Dickson Choto (both Legia Warsaw), Costa Nhamoinesu (Zagbie Lubin)
Austria: Justice Majabvi (LASK Linz)
Cyprus: Musawenkosi Mguni, Noel Kaseke (both AC Omonia)
Romania: Mike Temwanjira (FC Vaslui)
Belgium: Cephas Chimedza (Sint-Truidense), Honour Gombami, Vusa Nyoni (Cercle Brugge)
To a die-hard Zimbabwean football fan, it’s a mystery that the country is still regarded as a nonentity in international football circles.
